Buffalo State has the responsibility of ensuring the safety and well-being of the entire campus community. To provide timely notifications of an emergency or dangerous situation that may involve an immediate or ongoing threat to the health or safety of students, faculty, staff, or visitors, it is critical that Buffalo State community members notify UPD immediately. UPD, in coordination with the President, or Agency Executive, may activate one, or all, of the systems of emergency notification.
All students, faculty, and staff are highly encouraged to check that they are enrolled in the Buff State Alert systems at the beginning of every semester and that their contact preferences are up to date.
You can enroll through the Buff State Alert website or you can sign up for text messages only by texting the word “buffalostate” to 79516.
Buff State Alert is a campus emergency notification system
Buff State Alert is used only to convey messages regarding serious safety issues, utility failures, or weather-related campus-wide closures and cancellations. Buff State Alert is capable of sending text messages, recorded voice messages, and e-mail messages to multiple addresses and phone numbers. In addition, the system is capable of immediately posting messages to the Buffalo State website home page, social media sites, the campus cable system, and select video message boards.
Buffalo State campus has an outdoor emergency alert horn which can be activated during an emergency incident.
During testing, the alert horn emanates a series of three one-minute blasts. The horn is primarily intended to be audible at outdoor locations on campus—not inside buildings. Buffalo State conducts regular campuswide tests of the alert horn, in conjunction with the Buff State Alert system.
In an actual emergency, the horn will sound for a minimum of five full minutes. If the emergency alert horn is signaled, immediately seek shelter, and await further instructions through the Buff State Alert system, email, the Buffalo State website, or from University Police.
