Flooding can occur from severe weather events such as heavy rainfall or melting snow and ice. Flooding can also result from a water main break, ruptured pipe, sump-pump failure, or chemical leaks.
Flooded areas can be hazardous for reasons not immediately visible such as electrical shock, fast rushing under-current, holes, pits, and debris under the water. Mud and other contaminants can make a walking surface extremely slippery.
